Ingredients

For the creamy base:
  • 1 cup sour cream (I like Daisy brand for a cleaner taste)
  • 1 cup mayo (I prefer Hellmann's for the best creamy texture)
  • 1 1/2 tbsp ranch seasoning
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper
For the mix-ins:
  • 1 lb bacon (cooked until very crispy and crumbled)
  • 1 1/2 cups tomato (seeded and diced into 1/4-inch pieces)
  • 1 1/4 cups lettuce (shredded thinly to ensure a good crunch)
For the garnish:
  • 2 tsp chives

Method

  1. Cook the bacon in a skillet over medium-high heat until it's very crispy, about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally for even browning. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to cool completely, then crumble into bite-sized pieces. I like my bacon cooked until it's almost charred at the edges because it adds a deeper, smokier flavor to the dip that really sets it apart.
  2. While the bacon cools, prepare your vegetables with precision. Seed the tomatoes by cutting them in half and gently squeezing out the excess moisture and seeds, then dice into uniform 1/4-inch pieces—this prevents the dip from becoming watery. Shred the lettuce thinly by stacking the leaves and slicing them into fine ribbons to ensure they maintain their crunch in the dip. Keep the vegetables separate until just before serving to maintain optimal texture.
  3. In a medium bowl, combine the sour cream and mayo together, then add the ranch seasoning and ground black pepper. Whisk until completely smooth and well combined, making sure there are no lumps of seasoning powder. I prefer Hellmann's mayo and Daisy sour cream because they create the creamiest, most luxurious base with the cleanest flavor—it really makes a difference in the final result.
  4. Gently fold the crumbled bacon from Step 1 into the creamy base until evenly distributed. Just before serving, fold in the prepared tomatoes and lettuce from Step 2—adding them at the last moment preserves the lettuce's crunch and prevents the tomatoes from releasing excess moisture into the dip. Top with the fresh chives and serve immediately with chips or crackers for the best texture and flavor.
